Vitus was an orangutan from Ape City, the husband of Valentina and son-in-law of Zaius and Siena. Eight years before Taylor's arrival, Vitus was undertaking research at Hollow Cliffs when the destruction of the Moon caused a major catastrophe in Ape City. Valentina gave birth to their child but then died, and it was only later that Vitus discovered this. Zaius, who raised Valentina's child, asked Vitus to lead a mission to Painted Valley to find emergency supplies of food, alongside Milo and Cornelius.
