Thomas was a chimpanzee and the leader of a protest against the use of shaming punishments by the gorillas to enforce the new wartime austerity codes, which his wife Amy was proud of. For that protest, he was beaten, arrested, and jailed for months. He felt so detached from their daughter that he even refused to name her. As a baby, she was taken away from both him and Amy. After everything he went through, he was broken in ways that even Amy couldn’t fix despite her best efforts.
Thomas and his mate were exiled to the Forbidden Zone, where he prohibited Amy from leaving him without explanations or even daring to try to start a new family in this forsaken place. The couple’s marriage soon began to crumble as Amy tried to finish cleaning the lighthouse she called home to avoid Thomas' arrival.
