The Making of Planet of the Apes was published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Planet of the Apes film. J.W. Rinzler undertook the most comprehensive research to date on the complex five-year struggle to translate a French novel into a Hollywood blockbuster, with unprecedented access to archival sources and correspondence. It also featured extensive and previously unpublished conceptual art for the evolving film script. The forward to the hard-cover book was written by Fraser Heston, son of Charlton Heston and a visitor to the film set in his youth.
