The Tek, members of the Valley Clan, were one of the human clans that emerged after Semos' revolt. Descendants of the civilised human 'Hitek' city population, they were light-haired, agricultural and technologically more advanced than the savage "Wilding" clan (descendants of a feral human community). Among the notable members of the clan were Ark (an elder, a "man with a wise brain and a sharp tongue"); Mellie (a female elder), Karubi; Karubi's wife Sarai (whose father had left the Wildings and become chief of the Tek, a position she inherited); their daughter Daena; and Birn.
