Planet of the Apes Wiki

Ash's Age:

I don't see how Ash could be 6 years old in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes #1, Maurice in the first couple pages, after Ash was born said it's been 2 winters since Rise/Ape Village; so, wouldn't that make Ash approximately 8 years old in the start of Dawn (as Maurice said it's been 10 winters since the end of Rise)? Are there any sources that point to Ash being 6 years old?

Buddy,

I've read all the issues, I've spent weeks figuring out how they fit between Rise and Dawn.  The whole "2 winters ago" is an error. Ash is older than Blue Eyes, yes, but he could be older based on a few months. It makes more sense for these six-issue comics to happen four to five years after Rise, because there is no possible way for all of humanity to break down as the Simian Flu is spread all over the world in just two years, not with all the attempts and media to remedy the flu and for the power to start failing. Riots can break down, but they can be faltered by martial law up to the point humans start to turn on one another. If you read the second issue, you would know that Cornelia is pregnat with Blue Eyes. In Dawn, Blue Eyes is an adolescent, so Ash is an adolescent as well; here is an article that states Blue Eyes, River during productions, is roughly a 15 year old. Therefore, it is impossible for Ash to be 8 in Dawn.

Friend,

I am sorry, but just because you've took a long time speculating does not make it fact. Who said that the Simian Flu needs to take as long as you speculate? It's a fictional disease, it does not have to follow by your logic.

As for sources, you've never provided any; yet only criticized the official sources. Matt Reeves stated that Blue Eyes is around 15 years old, yes, but what does that translate in chimpanzee years? This site, which cites Jane Goodall as the source (http://animaldiversity.org/site/accounts/information/Pan_troglodytes.html ) state that chimpanzees typically enter puberty (also known as adolescence) around 7 years of age, so at 8, Ash is still "teenager".

But regardless, I understand that Planet of the Apes will not always be scientifically sound (as it is fiction), but I think that we should use the age that is given in the official sources rather than speculation.
