Changes: San Francisco Human Colony

The San Francisco Human Colony was a small community of humans based in San Francisco that survived the Simian Flu Pandemic that wiped out most of the human species.

History

Foundation

After the Simian Flu Pandemic had run its initial course, surviving humans were genetically immune to the virus and survived the period of societal collapse. Therefore, the remaining citizens of San Francisco established a colony in a dilapidated, unfinished shopping mall in hopes that they could return to some form of civilian life, find other survivors, and rebuild the world they lost. Additionally, the colony claimed a large stockpile of weaponry left behind by various police and military forces, including the National Guard and FEMA.

Encountering the Apes

The colony was later visited by the Evolved Apes following a skirmish between Caesar's Ape Army and Malcolm's Group. The ape leader Caesar promised the humans that the apes did not want war but if provoked then they would fight back, warning them to stay away from Ape Mountain.

Mounting Tensions

Despite Malcolm's Group and the Ape Colony reaching a short fragile peace by restoring power to San Francisco, tensions and distrust between apes and humans ultimately led to a violent revolution led by Koba's usurpation of Caesar's rule, kickstarting the Battle of San Francisco. Significant casualties mounted on both sides but the apes prevailed and stormed the colony's sanctuary. All surviving humans were rounded up and placed in disused medical trailers so that the human race would know: "life in cage".

However, with power to the city restored, Dreyfus escaped capture and sent out an S.O.S signal to a distant military base up north, informing them about the ape's attack but was too late to prevent the invasion. The Human captives were later set free when Caesar returned to the city to end Koba's reign. Despite Malcolm trying to reason with Dreyfus that the apes were misled into attacking, Dreyfus refused and planned to "save the human race" by blowing unstable C-4 charges underneath the tower for an act of revenge, and succeeded despite delays made by Malcolm. Although Ceasar finished off Koba and ended the rogue ape's violent reign, he knew that the humans would never forgive the apes for what happened, forcing Caesar to prepare his people for the oncoming war ahead.
