Rick Jaffa was a writer and producer of the 2011 movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes. From working in the mailroom of the William Morris Agency, Jaffa went on to be an executive producer and an uncredited co-writer on the very successful 1992 movie The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, having married its screenwriter Amanda Silver in 1989. With Silver, Jaffa co-wrote Eye for an Eye (1996) and The Relic (1997). Silver and Jaffa origninated the idea for a reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise in 2006 and pitched it to 20th Century Fox. They began writing a script soon afterwards. In 2010 they returned to the industry, producing and making their acting debuts in the comedy Love Shack, written and directed by Amanda's brother Michael. After some set-backs with original director Scott Frank, they were back onboard as writers and producers of the finished Apes movie made by director Rupert Wyatt and released in August 2011. Following its success they began writing a script for a sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
