Ricardo Montalbán is known to Ape fans as Armando the amiable circus owner from Escape from the Planet of the Apes and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Montalbán was born in Mexico City and schooled at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, where he first appeared in school plays. Unable to break into the movies, he headed for New York and attained recognition on Broadway in such shows as Her Cardboard Lover with Tallulah Bankhead. After making nine Spanish-language films in his native Mexico he came back to California and starred with Esther Williams in Fiesta. Under contract to MGM he starred in such films as On An Island with You, The Kissing Bandit, Neptunes Daughter,Border Incident,
Battleground, Mystery Street,Two Weeks With Love, Right Cross, Across the Wide Missouri, My Man and I, Sombrero and Latin Lovers. As a freelance star, he was seen in Sayonara, The Saracen Blade, A Life In The Balance, Sweet Charity, The Train Robbers, and reprised his role of Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and many others.[1]
