Random House is an imprint and publishing division of Penguin Random House. Established in 1927 as an imprint under Modern Library, Random House quickly grew to surpass its parent imprint. Over the years, various acquisitions helped it become one of the largest publishing houses in the United States. In 2013, Random House merged with Penguin Group, forming Penguin Random House, which is owned by the Germany-based media conglomerate Bertelsmann. Today, Penguin Random House uses the Random House brand for the Random House Publishing Group, Random House Children's Books, and other imprints.
Random House is known for publishing a wide range of books, including titles in the Little Golden Books series, which are aimed at young readers. Little Golden Books feature licensed titles from major pop culture franchises as well as biographical works. In 2024, they collaborated with 20th Century Studios to release Little Golden Book adaptations of the originel Planet of the Apes movie and Alien.
