Pavel Chekov is the ensign aboard the USS Enterprise, serving under Captain James T. Kirk. When the Enterprise crossed over into the Planet of the Apes, he was the first to notice the parallel Earth. Later he joined an away team down to the planet, which they soon encountered Colonel George Taylor, who there after rendered Chekov unconscious and stole his communicator.
