Nerise was a member of the council of the city of Mak. She had lost her sons during earlier wars. After the murder of the Lawgiver, Nerise supported Alaya during her decade of rule, but then came under the telepathic control of the human Brother Kale. Under his influence the elderly Nerise orchestrated a coup and imprisoned Alaya, leading to a civil war among their factions, but then committed suicide.
