The continued success of ratings winners Sanford and Son, followed by Chico and the Man on NBC meant that the 1974 Planet of the Apes TV series on rival CBS was unable to maintain any kind of audience figures, and it was cancelled that December. From September 6th - November 29th, 1975, NBC aired the Return to the Planet of the Apes animated television series on Saturday mornings.
