Hey Evolto! How are you? My name's Chris and I'm the Wiki Manager for Planet of the Apes Wiki! I'm here to be a liaison with full-time Fandom staff and to answer any wiki related questions you may have. These questions can be related to anything wiki related, from editing, design, social aspects etc. Please contact me on my Message Wall if I can help with anything!
I see you're quite a new admin, congratulations! Is there anything I can to help you? :)
Hey! It's really great you want to grow the community, that's what everyone should be aspiring to. I want to help!
Do you have any other ideas for how to grow the wiki?
As a suggestion myself, a key way to grow the community would be to have an updated background for the wiki and an updated main page. Would you mind if I drafted a couple of designs for you to take a look at? I think that would be really beneficial for the wiki. :)
Good stuff! I'll draw something up that we can discuss. In terms of the background, I was wondering if a design that shows a scene or an epic moment might be useful. Perhaps splitting a poster like this across the background space might be good, similar to how Star Wars Wiki did it. I'll prioritise the main page though.
Made the changes! The main page will look like how it does on my test wiki, it will just take a while for the cache to clear for it.
Also, I can't add the Discussions module that appears on the right hand side of my test wiki main page for this wiki as Discussions isn't enabled for this wiki. Is Discussions something you would want enabled? :)
All good! The main page is yours to edit and do with as you like, I'm glad I was able to give you a starting point.
One thing, because I tried to keep the colour the same, I noticed the wordmark is a bit difficult to read - it doesn't stand out from the background a lot. Would a lighter header like this help? If you're happy with it as it is then all good. :)
Looks amazing! So glad I was able to help with that.
Is there anything you want help with on the wiki? Anything else you're particularly excited about getting done? Fox/Disney have said there is a future for the Planet of the Apes franchise so it would be great to have the wiki prepared. :)
Hey there! While I think of it, I think it is advisable to change the wiki's default link colour to something a little further away from red. This is mainly because red is often associated with a red link, which means an article hasn't been created. It's just to avoid confusion is all. This can be changed via Special:ThemeDesigner. Thanks! :)
I'm still intrigued to talk about further ideas for this wiki going forward. Are you interested in areas such as Community growth perhaps? Ways to grow this community going forward? I just think it's important for wiki admins to set goals and targets to achieve.
I know there isn't much new Planet of the Apes content, but that's not to say you can't grow a community with the rich content you already have. :)
Sure! So I don't want to bombard you with a million different ideas, but here are a few that I think would be appropriate for this wiki.
So a key way a wiki becomes more active is if the material the wiki is based off is producing more content. While the Planet of the Apes movies aren't being produced at the moment, there are still ways to attract contributors.
Focus on new content
Focusing on recently released content, I noticed the wiki navigation doesn't feature ways to navigate around the wiki, but especially the latest Planet of the Apes movies. Although that navigation is on the main page, the top wiki navigation near the wordmark is a key area where readers navigate around the wiki. If I want to find out about the latest trilogy of movies, it's tough to find them through scanning the wiki.
That's a key bit of advice - place new content as a priority and make it easily accessible. :)
Cater for mobile users
There is a real rise in users using mobile devices to access all websites including wikis. This is shown with 55% of users viewing this wiki from mobile devices, using the mobile skin.
A great way to accommodate these users is through creating a Mobile Main Page. This is really useful as it makes the wiki easy to navigate for users on mobile devices. Plus it makes this wiki eligible for inclusion on the Fandom app!
I can help with the Mobile Main Page if you like. :)
Promote your wiki
You are more than welcome to write a blog about this wiki over at Community Central to promote your wiki.
It could also be a good idea to create a Twitter account for this wiki and post Planet of the Apes content. Post quotes, movie stills, and interact with the community that way. You can draw it users from the social media space to the wiki potentially.
Those are just three things I thought about for this wiki really, hopefully they help. Help:Building a community is also a great resource. Each wiki is unique so you have to try what's best for you! :D
I didn't lock it. It must be auto-locked.
I see now. Somehow it got archived and this is now your talk page, this wall thing. I always found that pretty confusing myself. So congrats on being Admin now!!! Your also Bureaucrat which is a step further. Even I don't have that!!! Though I'm seeking it out at the moment. That gives you the power to not just block users, but you can promote other users if you so choose. Admins can't do that (which I didn't realize) but Bureaucrats can.
