Juan Vlasco was a comic book artist who contributed material to Dark Horse Comics' Planet of the Apes titles, including their Planet of the Apes: The Human War, Planet of the Apes: Old Gods and Planet of the Apes: Blood Lines comic series.

He began his career as a comic book artist nationally with Editorial VID while attending university, working on the Mexican comic "La bestia roja." Due to time constraints, he resigned from drawing to focus solely on inking. His first job for an American publisher was as both an artist and inker for the series Idol under Milestone Comics. Later, he inked a story for Blade in Marvel's Black and White series, and since then, he dedicated himself exclusively to inking. [1]

He later worked with Paco Medina on the Dark Horse ComicsĀ“ Planet of the Apes titles, and from that point on, they became collaborators and close friends. They worked together on various titles from Marvel including Venom, Nova, Ultimate X-Men and Avengers. He passed away due to medical complications related to appendicitis in 2020. Paco Medina shared a few words to bid farewell to Juan and offer his condolences to his family. [2]

"Iā€™ll be selfish in saying that for many valuable reasons, Juanito meant more to me than to most. Through the years of hard work together, I got to know a man with a heart of gold, and I hold that close to me. He was my mentor, my friend, my teacher, and my brother. Now, as I struggle to understand that heā€™s no longer here, I look back at what we created together and see that itā€™s impossible to separate his lines from mine. I was fortunate to listen to him, I was fortunate to laugh with him. And with how selective he was about the people around him, he chose me as his brother. Juan, I can only thank you for looking out for me during the toughest times and for teaching me to envision a better future... Without your companionship, I wouldnā€™t be the person I am today," Medina shared on his Facebook account. [3] [4]
