The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon in the United States, carved by the Colorado River in Arizona. The river established its course through the canyon approximately 6 million years ago, likely evolving from pre-existing drainage systems. Geologic processes, such as erosion of tributaries, slope weathering, and active tectonics, continue to shape the canyon's landscape today.
