The Funeral of Caesar was the funeral put together by the San Francisco Ape Colony to honor their fallen leader Caesar, after his tragic death in the aftermath of the Human-Ape War.
History[]
Following Caesar's death, which occurred when he was struck by an arrow during the last confrontation of the Human-Ape war, the San Francisco Ape Colony organized a funeral in his honor after settling into their new sanctuary at the Hidden Oasis. Apes of all kinds—chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans—gathered to express their condolences. A funeral pier was constructed, and Caesar's body was laid upon it. Maurice, Rocket, and other members of the colony adorned his body with pink flowers, symbolizing their heartfelt tribute to their beloved leader and companion.
Subsequently, the ape named Stone approached and utilized his torch to set the pier ablaze. As the flames roared to life, Maurice, Rocket, and the other apes raised their clenched fists in unison, honoring Caesar's renowned motto of "Apes Together Strong." Meanwhile, Caesar's son Cornelius stood quietly beside his guardian, Lake, solemnly observing the cremation of his father.
Trivia[]
- Bad Ape and Nova are noticeably absent from the funeral.
- When asked about their omission from the film, Wes Ball commented that while he tried to incorporate them, several major factors forced him to discard them altogether. He mentioned that Nova was filmed by a lookalike actress against a blue screen, but there was concern that casual audiences would confuse her with Mae. As for Bad Ape, the budget for rebuilding the asset wasn't sufficient and had to be redirected to other major sequences in the movie. [1]
- Additionally, there is a deleted scene where Raka explains to Noa that Caesar's funeral held great significance for the generations that followed after his death. Since Caesar's passing, it became a tradition among the apes to burn their dead as a way to say goodbye. [2]
