Donkeys were what the human soldiers call the Thirteen apes who sided with them in the war against Caesar and his army. Many of these "donkeys" defected from Caesar's own army either out of fear of Caesar, preferring the humans or did not want to serve with him due to being loyal to Koba.
Under J. Wesley McCullough's command, most of the donkeys serve as mere slaves, being used to do their bidding like carrying mortar launchers, ammunition, guns and helping move equipment. If they betray them, they are shot instantly. They are also forced to have "Donkey" painted on their backs and the Greek letters Alpha-Omega, branded on either temple.
During the Battle of the Border, the Donkeys were wiped out when Caesar blew up the Alpha-Omega defensive wall that they were stationed on. The Donkey leader, Red, redeemed himself in his last moments by killing Preacher and saving Caesar, allowing Caesar to blow up the wall and the base, saving the rest of the apes.

Notes
- According to director Matt Reeves, the name "Donkeys" is both a reference to the video game character Donkey Kong and like donkeys, they are used as pack animals.
- After Red (Donkey) save Caesar’s life and Caesar blowing up the alpha- omega base, all of the donkeys die
