Chinda was a chimpanzee from the community of Painted Valley, the daughter of the leader Amicus. She, like others, had become mutated through eating food contaminated with water flowing from the Forbidden Zone as a result of an earlier earthquake. These mutants were confined to a cave system nearby and were fed by the rest of the community in return for protecting the valley by means of mentally projecting monsters to scare away any strangers.
