Doctor Baran was the chief medical officer in the city of Mak. On the orders of Alaya, Baran tended Sullivan during the birth of her son Julian, even though he was unfamiliar with human anatomy. Although Baran tried to stop Alaya from taking Julian away, Sullivan nevertheless blamed him and shot him after he had guided her escape.
