Avitus was a chimpanzee farmer living in the remote area around Hollow Cliffs. After Pansa had excavated the cave system there, Doctor Zaius visited to see the results himself. Avitus invited Zaius to stay at his home overnight, but after a meal together Avitus lured Zaius to an ambush organised by Councilor Tenebris, who then revealed the true history of mankind to Zaius.
