Amicus was the leader of a very old chimpanzee community at Painted Valley. When Vitus, Milo and Cornelius visited, looking for emergency supplies of food, Amicus was initially very welcoming, but when Milo and Cornelius began to investigate some of the peculiarities of Painted Valley, Amicus took them captive and threatened to kill them. They were only saved through the intervention of Amicus' daughter Chinda, one of a number of mutant chimps who had been banished to nearby caves but who were ultimately welcomed back into the community.
