Production Timeline[]
- January 14: Actor Ricardo Montalban passes away. Montalban played Armando the amiable circus owner from Escape from the Planet of the Apes and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
- February 6: Actor James Whitmore passes away. Whitmore played the role of the President of the Assembly in the original Planet of the Apes film.
- February 16: Screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, got a final inspiration for Rise of the Planet of the Apes due to the report of a 200 pound, pet chimpanzee named Travis mauled his owner's friend. This was the 4th and final draft before they went to 20th Century Fox.
- May 13: Actor Frank Aletter passes away. Aletter featured in the Planet of the Apes television series episode "Up Above the World So High", as Leuric.
- May 23: Screenwriter Edward J. Lakso passes away in Beverly Hills, California. Lakso wrote two episodes of the Planet of the Apes TV series - "The Trap" and "The Cure".
- May 28: Producer Mort Abrahams passes away. As executive vice-president of APJAC Productions, Abrahams was instrumental in getting Planet of the Apes made, and co-wrote Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
- July 3: Screenwriter Charles Eastman passes away. Eastman wrote an unused original screenplay for a Planet of the Apes movie in late 1966.
- September 8: Journalist Army Archerd passes away. Archerd made on-screen appearances in Planet of the Apes and Beneath the Planet of the Apes playing gorilla soldiers, and in Escape from the Planet of the Apes as the Boxing Referee.
- September 13: Director Arnold Laven passes away. Laven directed the Planet of the Apes TV series episodes "The Trap", "The Surgeon" and "The Liberator".
- October 16: Comic illustrator George Tuska passes away. Tuska illustrated an adaptation of Planet of the Apes published in Planet of the Apes Magazine.
- October: The complete soundtrack to Escape from the Planet of the Apes is released on CD by the Varese Sarabande label.
