- January: Issue #5 of Dark Horse Comics' original Planet of the Apes comic series is published.
- February: Issue #6 of Dark Horse Comics' original Planet of the Apes comic series is published.
- February: Issues #1-3 of Dark Horse Comics' original Planet of the Apes comic series are collected in graphic novel format as Planet of the Apes: Old Gods.
- April 27: Novelist George Alec Effinger passes away. Effinger wrote several novel adaptations of thePlanet of the Apes (TV Series) including Man The Fugitive, Escape To Tomorrow, Journey Into Terror and Lord Of The Apes.
- May: Issues #4-6 of Dark Horse Comics' original Planet of the Apes comic series are collected in graphic novel format as Planet of the Apes: Blood Lines.
- HarperCollins publishes novels Planet of the Apes: The Fall and Planet of the Apes: Colony by William T. Quick, tying-in with the previous year's Planet of the Apes (The Chronicles of Ashlar) movie.
- HarperEntertainment publishes novels Planet of the Apes: Force and Planet of the Apes: Resistance by John Whitman, tying-in with the previous year's Planet of the Apes (The Chronicles of Ashlar) movie.
- May 2: Actor Ron Soble passes away. Soble featured in the Planet of the Apes television series episode "The Cure", as Kava.
- June 19: Screenwriter Robert W. Lenski passes away in Los Angeles. Lenski wrote two episodes of the Planet of the Apes TV series - "The Good Seeds" and "Tomorrow's Tide".
- June 28: Planet Of The Apes for PlayStation 1 is launched.
- August: Actor Charlton Heston publicly announces that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
- August 16: Actor Jeff Corey passes away. Corey played the role of Caspay in the 1970 film, Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
- August 30: Director J. Lee Thompson passes away. Thompson was at one point scheduled to direct the original Planet of the Apes, but dropped out. He went on to direct sequels Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
- September 11th: Actress Kim Hunter passes away in New York City. Hunter played the role of Zira in the original Arthur P. Jacobs films.[1]
- September 16: Actor James Gregory passes away. Gregory played the role of General Ursus in the 1970 film, Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
- October 19: Director and screenwriter John Meredyth Lucas passes away in Orange County. Lucas directed the Planet of the Apes television episode "Up Above the World So High".
