- January: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #20 is released.
- January: Planet of the Apes: Blood of the Apes #3 is released.
- January 15: Actor Hari Rhodes passes away. Rhodes appeared in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes playing the role of MacDonald.
- February: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #21 is released.
- February: Planet of the Apes: Blood of the Apes #4 is released.
- March: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #22 is released.
- March: Planet of the Apes: Sins of the Father is published by Malibu Graphics.
- March 21: Actor John Ireland passes away. Ireland featured in the Planet of the Apes television series episode "The Liberator", as Brun.
- April 13: Actor Eddie Fontaine passes away. Fontaine played a gorilla sergeant in the Planet of the Apes television series episode "The Gladiators".
- April 24: Actor Doc Shaw is born. Shaw played Ash in the 2014 movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
- May: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #23 is released.
- July: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #24 is released.
- Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh pitch a three or four-page treatment which “continued the ape’s saga from where it left off in the fifth movie.” Roddy McDowall agrees to play a role they have written for him. Executive changes at 20th Century Fox lead to the withdrawal of support for the project.
- October 25: Screenwriter David P. Lewis passes away. Lewis co-wrote the Planet of the Apes television episode "The Horse Race".
- December: Planet of the Apes: Forbidden Zone by Malibu Graphics debuts.
