- February 23: Producer Stan Hough passes away. Hough is credited with inspiring Beneath the Planet of the Apes, and produced the Planet of the Apes TV series in 1974.
- April 22: Actor Albert Salmi dies under mysterious circumstances. Salmi appeared in Escape from the Planet of the Apes playing the role of E-1.
- April: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #1 by Malibu Graphics' 'Adventure Comics' imprint is released - starting a long line of 'Planet Of The Apes'-related comic books and graphic novels.
- June: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #2 by Malibu Graphics is released.
- July: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #3 is released.
- August: Planet of the Apes (Volume 1) #4 is released.
- August: Ape City #1 by Malibu Graphics debuts their first Apes spin-off comic.
