Production Timeline[]
- January 18: Actor Jeff Burton passes away. Burton played the role of Dodge in the 1968 film Planet of the Apes.
- April 5: Actor and director Alf Kjellin passes away in Los Angeles. Kjellin directed the Planet of the Apes television episode "The Interrogation".
- Twentieth Century Fox commissions Adam Rifkin to write an "alternate sequel to the first film." Rick Baker is hired to design prosthetic makeup and Danny Elfman to compose a film score. Tom Cruise and Charlie Sheen are considered for the lead role.
- November 24: Battle for the Planet of the Apes co-writer John William Corrington passes away.
- December 8: Actress Anne Seymour passes away. Seymour appeared in the TV episode "The Interrogation" as Ann, mother of Galen.
- December 21: The first revision of Adam Rifkin's Return to the Planet of the Apes screenplay is submitted. Creative differences between Rifkin and Fox lead to the project being abandoned.
