- January 19: Filming of Escape from the Planet of the Apes is completed.
- March 12: Actor Roy E. Glenn Sr passes away shortly after his performance in Escape from the Planet of the Apes playing the role of the Lawyer.
- March 15: Boxer, stuntman and actor Joe Gray passes away shortly after his performance in Escape from the Planet of the Apes playing the role of a Bodyguard.
- May 21st: Escape from the Planet of the Apes is released in the United States.
- Paul Dehn is asked to script a further sequel.
- June 5: Actor Mark Wahlberg is born. Wahlberg played the role of Captain Leo Davidson in the 2001 Planet of the Apes movie.
- June 18: Actor Thomas Gomez passes away. Gomez played the role of The Minister in the 1970 film Beneath the Planet of the Apes - one of his last appearances.
- August 29: Screenwriter Mark Bomback is born. Bomback was a writer on the movies Rise of the Planet of the Apes (uncredited), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.
- November 27: Actor Kirk Acevedo is born. Acevedo played the role of Carver in the 2014 film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
